*CANCELLED* Deep Waves 5Rhythms Dance Gathering with Layah (in studio)

  • Roncesvalles United Church 240 Roncesvalles Avenue Toronto, ON, M6R 1M3 Canada (map)

Dec 17, 2021 Note:

I am so sad to announce that our in-studio class the month is cancelled, due to the exponential rise in Covid cases.

I will be sending refunds to registrants, beginning tomorrow (Saturday) at 11am.

It is gutting to put so much intention, time, and energy into an experience for people, and then have to cancel. It's devastating to not get to be together in that room, sweating, and expressing, and feeling our aliveness. I love it. So much. It is so needed at this time.

And yet, the evidence is clear, and this is what I need to do to respond to the changing environment, and to remain in alignment with not just the shifting provincial restrictions, but also my own integrity.

I am praying that we will be able to return to in-studio dancing in January, once more folks have had a chance to get boosters. We will have had a chance to get past the holidays then, and we will know if we have had any exposures. Perhaps we will also have a better sense by then, of how our hospitals are holding up amidst Omicron. I am holding the vision of us dancing in person together again, SOON.

COVID PROTOCOLS

The church has specific guidelines for our use of their space:

Capacity: 25 people max in the room (including teacher and crew)

Masks at all times

Proof of vaccination required

Physical distancing

Contact tracing (name and phone number of every participant)

Outside doors get locked after all participants are in the building

People are in different places and have different comfort levels regarding sharing space. The results of Layah's early Fall mailing list survey showed that a significant percentage of participants strongly preferred to have the added layer of protection of pre-class rapid antigen tests, and the majority felt fine about participating in this layer of risk mitigation.

So, at this time, it will also be mandatory to take a rapid antigen test prior to entering the studio. These tests will be provided to you at the door when you arrive. They are a shallow nasal swab test that you will be instructed how to self-administer. Test results are available in 10-15 minutes. (Perhaps a pre-dance quiet meditation time as we wait for our results? :)

Please arrive between 7-7:20pm to do your antigen test before class.

While no layer of protection is perfect, all of the above measures work better together than they do alone. If you choose to attend this indoor class, you acknowledge that though we are taking many precautions, there is still a risk of contracting Covid as a result of attending, and you are assuming full responsibility for your choice to attend, and any illnesses or injuries that may result.

As case numbers drop in Ontario we anticipate being able to drop the antigen testing from our protocols, and eventually our other safety precautions as well, as our province, and our venue allow us to.
