Return ~ A 5Rhythms and Continuum Nature Immersion with Layah Jane & Kim Brodey (Madoc, ON)

  • Black River Farm and Wilderness Madoc, Ontario Canada (map)

*THIS WORKSHOP IS AT CAPACITY AND WAIT-LISTED! TO JOIN THE WAITING LIST, PLEASE EMAIL LAYAH@LAYAHJANE.COM*

Beneath the bustle of busy lives, there is a yearning to slow down and resource. To turn towards ourselves and our relationship with nature,  co-creating sacred space for embodied prayer.

This August we will gather by The Black River in Madoc, ON for a midsummer movement sojourn, held in the temple of Forest, Sky, Rock, and River. Supported by 5Rhythms and Continuum practice, we will attune to the primordial rhythms that come from within and journey together into deeper communion with the wilderness within us and around us.

Kim (Continuum), and Layah (5Rhythms), are co-stewards of Black River Farm & Wilderness. They are  mother/daughter-in-law creative collaborators, students of each other's work, and midwives of embodiment in their own lineages. Thirty years into their relationship, they are thrilled to invite you to join their first collaborative movement offering.

Black River Farm & Wilderness, situated on 300+ acres of forest and farmland in Madoc Township, Hastings County, is part of our family’s intergenerational collaborative effort to protect land, conserve wild habitat, and honour our relationships with the natural world as integral to our well-being. We are the grateful students and stewards of this land that is part of a growing community of people in the Hamlet of Cooper who are taking action to protect wilderness, regenerate farmland, and learn how to be good stewards for future generations.

Acknowledgment of First Nations Land and People: We honour and acknowledge the Wendake-Nionwentsïo,  Mississauga, and Anishinabewaki Nation ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ, on whose traditional and ancestral territories colonization is still being enacted. We strive to learn to recognize our part in the continuation of colonialism, and offer our work in a way that does no further harm. We seek to address ongoing colonial harms by supporting organizations that uplift and centre Indigenous identities, values, cultures, and rights. We invite you to take a moment to find for yourself what acknowledging means to you and how the action of repair lives in you.

Continuum with Kim Brodey
Before we become all the identities that give us a sense of our place in the world, we are simply the movement of Water. From the spiralling of our muscles to the spiral of a seashell, from the spiraling of the galaxies to the whorl on top of a newborn’s head, all life is shaped by the movement of Water.

With intention, sound, and breath, we vibrate our internal waters. Continuum is a play with sound and breath, inviting them in, to wake up our internal landscape. With curiosity and attention to sensation, we  allow ourselves to be carried into movement that we come to recognize as the movement we are, the movement that formed us. We let go of the ways we define our body and how we know it, and open to the mystery of life that vibrates inside of us.

I fell in love with Continuum in 1992 and have been teaching workshops in Europe and North America since 1994. Key to my facilitation is creating an environment wherein participants have the opportunity and permission to delve into unfamiliar territory, expanding somatic expression. My love for the intelligence of our Body began with mentoring individuals and couples in 1972, as a rural midwife.  My role as midwife continues, however I am no longer catching babies. I am midwifing the process of becoming fully embodied.

I was authorized in 1998 by Emilie Conrad, the mother of Continuum, and Susan Harper https://continuummontage.com/portal-home.html , co- creator with Emile, to teach Continuum and continued being mentored by Emilie up until her death in 2014.  I am a founding member of the CTA, Continuum Teachers Association. https://www.continuumteachers.com/  the new home of Continuum.

5Rhythms® with Layah Jane Singer-Wilson
5Rhythms is a dynamic movement meditation practice - a map to reconnect with an innate spectrum of expression. There are no steps to follow in this improvisational movement methodology. Instead, we show up, tune in and move what is alive in us. The 5Rhythms ~ Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness ~ dance us through a Wave that mirrors the way energy moves and changes in the world. We will move with music, we will move with our breath, and we will move with the sounds of the forest around us. This is the dance of remembering, of re-wilding, of reconnecting with our essential creative natures.

I first fell for 5Rhythms in my late teens and for the last 20+ years I have steeped myself in movement meditation practice. Passionate about offering people sacred space to experience motion as medicine, I have facilitated expressive movement since 2003 on all kinds of dance floors: classes, gyms, offices, barns, forests, fields, and studios, including at Toronto's conscious dance hubs The Move, and Ecstatic Dance Toronto. I completed 5Rhythms teacher training in 2014, and am both a certified 5Rhythms teacher accredited with the 5Rhythms Teachers Association, and a member of the International Conscious Movement Teachers Association. All study hours with me count as prerequisites towards future 5Rhythms teacher trainings.
